03/8,9,10,11: Las Vegas
The entire group packed up Sunday morning to head to Vegas. We all agreed that our week in Palm Desert (with the amazing private pool and hot tub!) just wasn't enough. The property manager arrived promptly at 9am to gather up the keys and we hit the road for the 4 hour drive. The weather was great and we had a good view of the windmill farm leaving the Coachella Valley and then a solar farm coming into Vegas. In between we had stretches of no traffic, lots of traffic and just plain stretches as we stopped periodically to extract our aging bodies from the car!
We arrived at the timeshare in Vegas mid-afternoon, pleasantly surprised with being able to immediately check in to our rooms. The next 3 days were filled with golf, gambling and good times with friends. It was especially fun to listen to Cecil marvel about the strip which didn't even exist the last time he was in Vegas in 1971!!
We played golf a couple of times. Both courses were great, but the first one, Bear's Best, was nestled between amazing multi million dollar homes. This unique course is made up of 18 holes hand selected by Jack Nicklaus from his 270 designs worldwide. I think the criteria for selection was the number sand traps on each hole. (We all managed to hit several of them including one with black sand!!). The other course, Canyon Gate, focused on as much water as possible!
Thursday morning found us saying good-bye to the rest of the group and hitting the road by ourselves for the trip home!
