03/12-18: Heading home!
We did it!!!! We made it home -- together, still alive and talking!!
We arrived home Wednesday afternoon after visiting Big Bear, Bass Lake and Angels Camp. Our goal was to visit 3 more of our timeshares and play a little golf. Thursday afternoon found us on the golf course in Victorville (not great) and then heading to Big Bear (cute resort town) for the night. In the morning we packed up and headed to Bass Lake - about 5 hours north and the next timeshare for the night. It was much more laid back than Big Bear and we enjoyed a nice dinner at the resort on the lake -- which was clearly needing a few good storms since the water level was extremely low.

From there we continued our drive north, taking the longer scenic route through Yosemite to get to Angels Camp. Having never been in Yosemite, Cecil and I were both awed by the giant sequoias, scenic waterfalls and towering granite cliffs. We took our time enjoying the scenic pull outs, visitors center and a short walk. Then it was on to Angels Camp for the next 3 nights -- again with some golf and a little time to relax before the final leg of our trip home.
Angels Camp was quiet and nice, but the real treasure was the town of "Murphys" just up the road a few miles. Imagine Carlton Oregon in northern California. Tasting rooms and quaint little shops lining the main street (and only street!) with people clearly enjoying the wine tasting -- which I also enjoyed! A few miles out of town on the way back to Angels Camp was an amazing winery complete with a mining museum, amphitheater and spring flowers everywhere!
Wednesday morning found us on the freeway heading home after spending the night in Eureka. An amazing view of Mt. Shasta sent us on our way as we spent the day on I-5, reaching Portland just in time for rush hour traffic!
As I look over my blog and the pictures from the last 2 months, I wouldn't change a thing! We saw amazing sights, played more golf on great courses than I ever imagined, spent time with friends and actually enjoyed the time together exploring, driving, golfing and relaxing as we move into the next phase of our life!
Oh.... and I'm already exploring the options for our next trip -- but maybe with a little less time in a car!
